VonShef Ultrablend review & giveaway: better than bullets & ninjas?
I’ve been asked to review another product to help us on the way to our five-a-day, the VonShef 1000W Ultrablend from Domu.
I’m all for increasing our families dietary intake of fruit and vegetables. That’s why a few weeks ago I declared my love of the amazingly versatile Lakeland Touchscreen Soupmaker (HERE). It managed to successfully increase our families vegetable consumption and reduce food waste, whilst reducing our reliance on expensive shop-bought fresh soups too.
So what about blenders? The VonShef Ultrablend is the latest blender from Domu.co.uk. At £38.99 at the time of going to press, it’s half the price of leading competitors. However, half the price doesn’t mean half the power. In fact, the Ultrablend’s powerful 1000W motor delivers a higher 25,000 RPM compared with the 20,000 RPM NutriBullet, blending fruit and vegetables into delicious smoothies, milkshakes and drinks in seconds.
Faster than a bullet, fiercer than a ninja; high performance is top of the agenda with the VonShef UltraBlend – Domu UK
The rise of the blender.
So why have blenders become so popular? In the last few years, people have become more concerned about their personal health. They’ve become more aware of the need for a good diet and exercise regimen and are keen to take steps towards a healthier lifestyle. This has led to a surge in the popularity of compact countertop blenders. We’ve had Nutribullets, NutriNinjas, NutriNuggets (I made that last one up), all offering to blend and liquidise our fruit, vegetables and other nutrients into tasty smoothies and drinks.
Why buy a blender?
One of the benefits of buying your own blender is you’ll no longer be limited to the smoothies and soups on offer ar your local supermarket and can create your own delicious recipes. Plus, by blending your own natural ingredients, you’ll avoid some of the problems of shop-bought products such as high salt content, added sugar, artificial additives, preservatives and colours.
There’s a large choice of blenders on the market at the moment, offering a range of different functions, accessories, and prices. That’s why it’s important to find a blender that offers the features that you want but also offers you a high-quality package at a price you can afford.
So what about the VonShef 1000w Ultrablend?
The VonShef 1000W Ultrablend blender.
First impressions.
Compared to my £20 Ambiano 300w Mini blender from Aldi, the VonShef Ultrablend is a larger, more powerful piece of kit. I like its sleek matt body and curves. Plus, there are suckers underneath the blender so there’s no danger of it riding across my kitchen worktop when it starts blending my strawberries!
The VonShef Ultrablend comes complete with a large 1 litre cup, a medium 800ml cup, a spill-proof lid and a sip & seal lid. The good news is the lids and cups are BPA-free and dishwasher safe so I don’t have to faff about cleaning them. Plus, the cups are lightweight and easy to carry too.
Although the Ultrablend is larger than my current blender, it’s still only 39.5 x 15 x 15cm so it’s convenient to store when not in use. It comes with an easy-to-follow instruction book, including six recipes to get you started with your smoothie and milkshake making.
Features.
The VonShef Ultrablend doesn’t offer different speed settings or blending options like some of its competitors. In fact, there isn’t even an on-off button. However, I don’t think it needs them. It does what it says on the tin: it blends fruit, vegetables, ice, seeds, stems and skins quickly and efficiently.
One of the key features of the VonShef Ultrablend that sets it apart from some of the other blenders on the market is the powerful 1000W motor. The motor spins razor-sharp 301 stainless steel pro extractor blades at an impressive speed of 25,000 RPM (more than the NutriBullet’s 20K RPM). Consequently, it blitzes fruit and veg, pulverises seeds, stems and skins quickly and effectively to produce smoothies and drinks packed with nutrients.
Ease of use.
The Ultrablend is easy to use, simply:
- Add your ingredients to the blending jar/cup
- Screw the blade unit onto the open end of the blending jar.
- Invert the assembled blending jar/blade unit and align the tabs with the small openings on the motor unit.
- Turn on the socket at the wall.
- Once aligned, turn the assembled blending jar/blade unit clockwise to lock into place and begin blending.
- For ‘pulse’ like blending, instead of locking into place, push and hold down the blending jar when it is placed on the motor unit.
I made a smoothie using my own chosen ingredients: frozen summer berries, melon, mango, cranberry juice.
I was impressed by the speed and power of the VonShef Ultrablend. It tackled my chunky, frozen ingredients with ease. It’s much more powerful than our current 300w blender, which meant it was also noisier. However, it isn’t too noisy, and you only need to use it for short bursts of blending.
It’s versatile.
Like many other blenders, the VonShef Ultrablend can help you towards a healthier lifestyle by giving you a quick and easy way to make sports drinks, protein shakes, fresh juices and smoothies. You can also use the Ultrablend for pureeing vegetables for soups and baby food and for crushing ice to make chilled drinks.
The verdict.
The VonShef 1000W Ultrablend is an impressive blender. It certainly packs more punch than my cheap and cheerful Ambiano blender from Aldi and tackled all the blending tasks I set it with ease.
The Ultrablend may not have the additional features of some of the other, more expensive blenders and juicers but what it lacks in buttons it makes up for in speed, build quality and good looks. Plus, its powerful 1000W 25k RPM motor means it’s more than a match for the NutriBullet and Nutri Ninja blenders but at fraction of the price.
If you’re looking for a competitively priced blender with the power to tackle all of your blending tasks and pulverise even the toughest stems, seeds and skins, then the VonShef Ultrablend could be just what you need.
