Why buy an art print when you can own the original for less than £100?
My wall still needs art!
You may remember a while ago I told you about my quest to find wall art for the blank wall in our living room, otherwise known as the ‘smushed bug’ wall (HERE). At least, I thought it was a smushed bug, but closer inspection suggests it’s a splodge of jam. I have no idea how jam found it’s way up there, but when you have two kids in the house, anything is possible.
Anyway, aside from the jam stain, our blank wall is no longer blank because Mr.T stuck his framed ‘Tubular Fells’ print on it a few months ago. I suspect this was a deliberate ploy to shock me into action and give me an extra incentive to track down something more suitable for our ‘grown up’ room. Don’t get me wrong, I love ‘Tubular Fells’, it’s a brilliant, original idea (Buy it here). I just don’t want it on the wall in my lounge!
Where ‘art’ thou?
Despite my burgeoning ‘to do’ list, and despite promising Mr T I’ll finally sort through the huge pile of old clothes I brought down from the loft and dumped in the spare room, I’m determined to dislodge ‘Tubular Fell’s’ from its spot on our wall and replace it with something more suitable.
I still love the artwork I showcased in my wall art post earlier this year (HERE), which included gorgeous prints by Mike Matola, Susan Entwistle, Kathy Ramsay Carr, Jenni Sparks and Andrew Bird. However, because I like to be thorough, I decided to continue my quest for the perfect piece(s) for my blank wall and hopefully spot a few bargains too.
That’s when an email popped into my inbox, telling me about Original Art Under £100.
Officially the most affordable original art website in the UK.
As the name suggests, the online art retailer features original, signed art at prices under £100, (although they’ve recently added a selection of £100+ pieces to another area of their website to offer buyers even more choice).
The promise of original artwork at an affordable price is an attractive proposition for art-lovers like me. I’ve always wanted to own an original work of art, rather than a mass-produced print, but I’ve never been able to find something I liked with my limited budget.
Original Art under £100.
Original Art Under £100 currently has around 100 emerging artists featured, exhibiting around 800 original pieces.
They manage to keep their prices low because, unlike most of the other online galleries who charge their artists 30-50% commission, they only charge their artists 12.5% commission so they can pass on the savings to buyers.
So with prices so low, is the artwork low quality too? I browsed through the artwork on offer myself and although not everything’s to my taste, there are some lovely pieces, which I think are an absolute bargain at these prices.
Have a look at just a few examples available to buy on the Original Art Under £100 website.
Over to you.
Have you ever bought an original piece of art? Have you painted or designed your own wall art for your home?
Whether you’re planning a home renovation, a room makeover or you want to get a unique gift for a loved one this Christmas, why not visit www.original-art-under100.com? With new art and artists being added each month, it promises to be a great place to buy truly affordable original art for the same price as mass-produced prints.

What a great idea!! We always debate buying some real art but then chicken out! Thanks for joining us for #marvmondays
Love the idea of original wall art! My husband auctioned for a piece recently by Ben Mosley and it is wonderful to own an original. We also have some paintings on the wall by our daughter Ella as she is a gorgeous painter! #MarvMondays xx
Thanks, Helen. It’s so special to have original artwork. Even more special if you have an emotional connection to it because the talented artist is someone you happen to love!
I think it must be feel really satisfying to get original art rather than a print which you may see in so many other people’s houses!! Great idea and also fab there is a low commission. Hope hubby not missing his tube map! xx #marvmondayss
there is something very special about having an original piece, I have to confess the only originals I have are my kids work, definitely not worth £100 to anyone but me! Seriously the pieces you show look excellent value. #MarvMondays
I am very honoured to say I have an extremely talented artist friend, and she did an original piece of art for our nursery instead of a typical baby shower gift. It is so beautiful and I love it! I must say I’m not really a huge art fan, so the fact I have a piece of original artwork in our nursery may be lost on me, but I definitely appreciate the hard work that went in to it and I love the originality of it. #MarvMondays
Its really special if the original artwork has been given to you by the artist! How lovely. I’m sure it’s something you will treasure.
This sounds like a really interesting website. We mainly have our own photos up but the artwork we have is all print. My parents won a couple of original pieces and they have always been feature pieces. It would be nice to own something original so I might take a look at this site. Hope you manage to find something for your living room wall! #MarvMondays
Thanks, Angela. There is something special about having an original work of art. Who knows, one day it could end up on Antiques Roadshow if the artist later becomes famous!!
Hi Jane. There is Christian artist in Stockton called Julie. Her business is called “I believe”. She paints some fab pictures inspired by the Lord. Jan knox xx
Hi Jan! Thanks for commenting. Has she got a website?
I paint all my own, but I do like some of these! By the way, how did you find out it was jam!? •grimaces at the thought of you ‘testing’ it*
