Why buy an art print when you can own the original for less than £100?
My wall still needs art!
You may remember a while ago I told you about my quest to find wall art for the blank wall in our living room, otherwise known as the ‘smushed bug’ wall (HERE). At least, I thought it was a smushed bug, but closer inspection suggests it’s a splodge of jam. I have no idea how jam found it’s way up there, but when you have two kids in the house, anything is possible.
Anyway, aside from the jam stain, our blank wall is no longer blank because Mr.T stuck his framed ‘Tubular Fells’ print on it a few months ago. I suspect this was a deliberate ploy to shock me into action and give me an extra incentive to track down something more suitable for our ‘grown up’ room. Don’t get me wrong, I love ‘Tubular Fells’, it’s a brilliant, original idea (Buy it here). I just don’t want it on the wall in my lounge!
Where ‘art’ thou?
Despite my burgeoning ‘to do’ list, and despite promising Mr T I’ll finally sort through the huge pile of old clothes I brought down from the loft and dumped in the spare room, I’m determined to dislodge ‘Tubular Fell’s’ from its spot on our wall and replace it with something more suitable.
I still love the artwork I showcased in my wall art post earlier this year (HERE), which included gorgeous prints by Mike Matola, Susan Entwistle, Kathy Ramsay Carr, Jenni Sparks and Andrew Bird. However, because I like to be thorough, I decided to continue my quest for the perfect piece(s) for my blank wall and hopefully spot a few bargains too.
That’s when an email popped into my inbox, telling me about Original Art Under £100.
Officially the most affordable original art website in the UK.
As the name suggests, the online art retailer features original, signed art at prices under £100, (although they’ve recently added a selection of £100+ pieces to another area of their website to offer buyers even more choice).
The promise of original artwork at an affordable price is an attractive proposition for art-lovers like me. I’ve always wanted to own an original work of art, rather than a mass-produced print, but I’ve never been able to find something I liked with my limited budget.
Original Art under £100.
Original Art Under £100 currently has around 100 emerging artists featured, exhibiting around 800 original pieces.
They manage to keep their prices low because, unlike most of the other online galleries who charge their artists 30-50% commission, they only charge their artists 12.5% commission so they can pass on the savings to buyers.
So with prices so low, is the artwork low quality too? I browsed through the artwork on offer myself and although not everything’s to my taste, there are some lovely pieces, which I think are an absolute bargain at these prices.
