Review & giveaway: The Dial food storage range from Joseph Joseph
There’s a new addition to the Joseph Joseph range: Dial food storage containers with datable lids.
These innovative containers offer the perfect solution to your food waste woes because you can set the expiry date using the dial on the lid.
I’m so excited to be reviewing these containers because apart from being a bit of a ‘fangirl’ when it comes to Joseph Joseph products, I’ve been looking for some good quality food containers for some time.
Plus, we’ve been trying to cut down on food waste in the Taylor household this year, (I even wrote a post about the subject: 10 tips to reduce food waste & save money), so having containers with datable lids sounds like the perfect solution.
Date it. Don’t waste it.
I don’t know about you, but I’m always throwing out perishable food and leftovers simply because I’ve removed the packaging or I can’t remember how long they’ve been stored in my fridge.
The thing is, although I don’t like waste, I don’t like the idea of eating something out of date and ending up with food poisoning either.
Thankfully, the clever designers at Joseph Joseph have come up with a fantastic solution: The Dial food storage system. The innovative contra-rotating dial on the container lids means you can set the expiry date for all your leftover meals, opened meats, vegetables and fruit instead of wasting them.
First impressions.
Believe me, I’ve got a lot of plastic food containers in my kitchen! I’d love to say they were all high quality, coordinating ones but that would be a BIG FAT LIE! In fact, anyone looking beyond the glossy doors of my kitchen units would be in for a bit of a shock because they are chock-full of all manner of random boxes. Some are broken, some are flimsy and break easily, whilst others have lost their lids and I’ve kept them anyway.
No wonder I was impressed when I laid eyes on the Dial food storage containers from Joseph Joseph. For a start, I love the fact the Dial containers have green lids because they coordinate with my other green kitchen accessories. Then there’s the quality of these sturdy little beauties. Each container is made of thick, durable plastic, with a high-quality lid. Furthermore, the rubberised edge of the lid forms a tight seal with the base. The containers are stackable too, so they won’t take up too much space in your cupboards when they’re not in use.
What’s more, as well as beeing BPA-free, the Dial containers are freezable, dishwasher safe and the base of the containers is microwavable too (the lid is not suitable for microwaves).
Using the Dial food storage containers.
So how do they work? The clever contra-rotating dial on the lid of the Dial™ food storage range lets you keep track of those all-important stored from and use by dates. It’s easy to use, simply turn the dial clockwise to set the month and anti-clockwise to set the day and voila! The dial feels sturdy and robust and there’s a satisfying click as it rotates through the different dates.
I’ve already put the Dial containers to good use in the Taylor household, using them to store the cooked meats and sandwich fillings I’ve opened whilst making packed lunches for Richard and the girls. This is a much nicer and more convenient system than I had before, which involved putting my opened meats into zip-loc sandwich bags. The girls also like having yoghurt in tubes and pouches so I’ve been recycling the cardboard packaging, popping the yoghurt tubes into Dial containers, setting the date, and stacking the container neatly in the fridge.
The Dial containers are also perfect for freezing my leftover meal portions because I can easily set the date I freeze them, which is useful.
And if I don’t need to enter an expiry date? The Dial storage containers are such lovely robust and versatile containers that I’ve been using them for general storage too.
Yes, it’s finally time to chuck out some of my broken, lidless plastic boxes and make room in my kitchen cupboards for my lovely Dial food storage containers.
