Review: The LoDo Satchel from Case Logic – at last there’s a credible alternative to being conservative.
I review the LoDo Satchel from Case Logic. Could this be the perfect laptop bag for my return to work?
The quest for the perfect work bag.
When I found out I’d got the job, I pulled my old black work bag from the back of the understairs cupboard. Although it served me well over the years, it was a practical rather than a fashionable choice and was starting to look a bit shabby and worn. I decided it was about time I treated myself to a new one…In fact, it’d be rude not to. New job, new bag, right?
This time I wanted more than an old-fashioned black nylon work bag. I wanted something a bit more contemporary, with plenty of room for files, books and other items as well as my laptop. What’s more, I didn’t really want something that looked like a laptop bag or something that was too masculine.
As with many of my quests, I suspected my ideal bag only existed in my imagination. Nevertheless, I pressed on!
My ‘bag quest’ eventually brought me to the Case Logic website. Not only were there plenty of laptop bags to choose from, the designs were fresh and trendy too. The LoDo satchel, in particular, caught my eye, offering a perfect blend in terms of its modern style, size, practicality and features.
No wonder I was delighted when the lovely folks at Case Logic agreed to send me a LoDo satchel to review.
The LoDo Satchel: First impressions.
The LoDo satchel is available in blue, grey and green. I was sent the grey LoDo satchel to review. The fabric is a strong, durable cotton with a nylon and mesh interior lining, which includes padded compartments for a laptop up to 15.6 inches and a tablet.
The LoDo satchel’s ‘best bits’.
The LoDo satchel is crammed full of compartments, pockets and features. Plus, there’s plenty of space for paperwork and files in addition to your laptop and tablet. It seems they’ve put a lot of thought into the design and there are some neat little details too.
1. The unique wide-mouth opening.
It’s annoying when you have to wrestle to hold your bag open to get large items like files and laptops into it. One of the best features of the LoDo satchel is the unique hinged frame design of the opening. It enables you to open the bag wide and it stays open whilst you pack and unpack it.
2. Finishing touches.
As well as the attractive mid-grey cloth, the two front pockets on the bag, with their textured flaps, add to the contemporary style of the bag. Using tan leather for the zipper pulls and around the bag handles is another lovely touch, helping to set the LoDo satchel apart from many of the more utilitarian laptop bags.
3. High-quality metal fastenings.
Case Logic opted to use metal, rather than plastic, fastenings and clips to attach the adjustable shoulder strap to the satchel, providing extra strength and durability. No wonder the LoDo satchel comes with a 25-year warranty.
4. Construction.
The LoDo satchel exterior is made from sturdy cotton canvas, with thick interior padding for the laptop and tablet compartments. There are nice finishing touches like the stitched Case Logic Logo.
The ‘Lowdown’ on the LoDo Satchel.

LoDo Satchel: The Verdict.
I’m impressed by the LoDo Satchel. It’s thoughtfully designed, with plenty of pockets and storage space for pens, files, books and stationery, as well as a laptop and tablet. Having the choice of internal and external pockets for my drinks bottle is also an added bonus. Plus, the thick, padded laptop compartment offers plenty of protection for my laptop.
In my opinion, the LoDo satchel’s unique wide-mouth opening is one of its best features and sets it apart from other laptop bags and cases. It’s stylish too, with three different colour options, (blue being my favourite), rather than boring old black. Plus, if you wany a bag to stand the test of time, it’s made of high-quality materials, backed up by Case Logic’s class-leading 25-year warranty.
If you’re looking for a stylish laptop satchel for work, school or travel and want something with a contemporary design, packed with plenty of compartments and features, the LoDo satchel from Case Logic could be a perfect choice.
