I’m a blogger this I know, cos my Moo cards tell me so!
A package arrived last week. It wasn’t a very big package in terms of its physical size but its significance was huge. That’s because the package contained my new business cards.
I realise business cards in and of themselves aren’t a big deal. In fact, they’re commonplace. You may not always be handed one directly but they can be found pinned to notice boards and on display in shops, libraries and businesses up and down the country. You probably hardly notice them anymore.
But these are my business cards. They’re significant to me. They’re significant because they represent a turning-point in my life. They make everything official: I have a blog and I’m officially a blogger, or ‘virtual writer’ as I like to think of myself! 🙂
I knew my cards were on their way, having designed them, uploaded my logo and added all the relevant details on the Moo website but it was still a big deal to see them for the first time.
Of course, I’ve had business cards before whilst I was a pharmacist and when I was advertising my portrait photography, but this is different. It represents a change of direction for me. I’ve chosen a new path and it’s printed for all to see in the form of my little homemade Maflingo logo, the thumbnail-sized photo of me and all the little letters spelling out my social media accounts.
You’ll probably think I’m being a big softie, (which I am), but I actually got a lump in my throat when I opened the business card box and pulled out one of my cards. I inspected it, turning it over in my hand (holding my breath as I anxiously checked for typos for the millionth time).
I felt emotional because it represents a milestone in this new chapter of my life. It’s exciting and daunting in equal measure. After all, I’ll have wasted thirty odd quid if it all goes pear-shaped and I have to return to pharmacy!!!
So, yes, these business cards are beautiful to me because they confirm my career change is official: ‘really real’. I’m following my heart and pursuing a creative career. These little white cards speak to me of possibilities. They remind me I was brave enough to take a risk. I look at them and I feel blessed because I know the only reason I have them is because I have loving, supportive friends and family who believe in me. They’ve been so patient and understanding as I’ve plugged away for hours trying to get to grips with the myriad of things this blogging life involves. They know how much this means to me and how determined I am to make a go of it.
Tomorrow, me and my lovely Moo business cards will be on a train to London for my first BritMums Live (BML) conference. The BMLs is an annual conference hosted by BritMums, the UK’s largest collective of lifestyle bloggers and digital influencers. It’s an opportunity for bloggers like me to meet brands, meet my peers in person (rather than virtually) and learn lots of things to help me to develop as a blogger. I’m sure my brain will be ready to burst and my ‘to do’ list will seem endless by the end of the day, but it’ll be worth it.
As well as having an opportunity to learn, the BMLs will be celebrating the UK’s best bloggers when the hotly contested BritMum’s Brilliance in Blogging (BiBs) Award winners are announced. You may remember I wrote a post about the BiBs when the shortlist was published (The BiBs Shortlist: The perfect reading list) and I will be hoping some of my favourite bloggers are excitedly clutching their awards as I say my goodbyes and pop my remaining business cards back in my bag and set off on my journey home.
Moo business cards. The story of you.
I chose Moo for my Maflingo business cards because I’d used them before when I ordered some cards for my photography business a few years ago. I probably used Moo back then because the name sounded nice and friendly. Plus, their logo is green, which happens to be my favourite colour, (they would have got an extra bonus point if it was a ‘lime’ green logo).
Moo offers even more business card options nowadays and there are so many ways to customise the cards to suit your needs. You can choose three different shapes: standard, square or mini and there’s also the option of rounded corners. There are four different types of paper plus additional features such as foil finish. The clever people at Moo even offer business cards with a chip embedded in them to allow you to trigger a range of digital actions.
When it comes to your business card design, there are plenty of options to satisfy creative professionals as well as absolute beginners. You can browse through hundreds of business card designs for inspiration or you can use Moo’s unique, modern design templates right out of the box or customise them to suit your style. If you want to upload your own logos and photos like I have then the online business card creator tool is simple to use.
As well as business cards, Moo also offers customised postcards and stickers.
I chose 100 matte laminate rounded business cards for £36.58 including postage and packaging.
If you are looking for business cards, then I’m sure you’ll find something to suit your needs on the Moo website.
If you fancy some rounded corner business cards like mine, then you can get a 15% discount (valid until 11.59pm on 14th July 2016) on this style using this code: P2QWFW

Thanks v much 🙂
I love moo! I used them for my minii card years ago for my handmade jewellery. I was so sad when I ran out but couldn’t justify ordering more. I can’t wait for the day when I need my blogger business cards and I’ll definitely be going to moo for them. I’ve only started blogging a month so fingers crossed it all kicks off for me and I get to put my hand in my pocket some day and day “oh yes here’s my business card.” #KCACOLS
Geraldine, thanks for stopping by. I hope your blog takes off and you get to order some cards! I love blogging and I’ve only been doing it 6 months.
I love the simplicity of your design, which reflects what they are advertising. Perfect. The font works really well – it is really distinctive and uncluttered. I completely get your emotional response to their arrival. What they represent is HUGE and I am sure that you will be incredibly successful in your new career. Good for you for taking the plunge. That’s such a nice sentiment for the business cards to mark a new chapter in your life, and what a good chapter it is turning out to be for you. Moo business cards are fab, I have loads left over from #BML16, which makes me think that I need to go to some more blogger events. Thanks so much for linking up at #fortheloveofBLOG. Claire x

Well done for ordering your business cards. I know that feeling. It was the same for me when I first received my packed! It was so strange to finally making it official that I was now going to be a blogger and will stop practicing law! It was so surreal! But it was the best decision I have ever made. I’m so happy! Your cards looks great and I wish you all the best in this new chapter in your life! It was very nice meeting you at BML. Thanks so much for sharing this at #KCACOLS, 🙂 xx
