Win a universal knife block
Here’s your chance to win a fabulous Spectrum Universal Knife Block from Dunelm
I have been looking for the perfect knife block for years (Amongst other things! I’m not that sad!). It’s a task that is almost as difficult as trying to find the ‘perfect slipper’. Sadly, I am not sure I will ever succeed in my ‘slipper quest’: this could have something to do with my very strict ‘perfect slipper’ requirements: fashionable (this requirement alone means I have more chance of winning the National Lottery than finding the perfect slipper); no velcro; no sheepskin; no kitten heels; no nylon; no zip.
Anyway, where was I? Oh yes, knife blocks!
I have found my perfect knife block and I really do mean it because this is the one we bought for our brand new kitchen. It’s Dunelm’s Spectrum Universal Knife Block and I love it because it has a sleek black and chrome finish that matches our knives, our Dualit toaster (the cheaper, but equally pleasing, black plastic version), our coffee machine and our kettle. I also love the fact that it’s universal and I can push my knives effortlessly into the tightly-packed removable plastic rods and arrange them exactly how I want them. In the past I have dismissed dozens of knife blocks for being too large, too ugly, too wooden.

My main reason for dismissing potential knife block candidates was the number and size of pre-determined slots they had for knives and scissors. This is fine if the block comes with matching knives that slot perfectly into their custom made holes. However, if you already have knives and you happen to be a bit OCD like me (really?!!), it ‘messes with my head’ to try and match a knife block to my existing knives or, perish the thought, settle for a part-filled block of knives that don’t slot into the holes properly. Please tell me I am not the only one who finds the whole mismatched knife block/knife thing unsettling? Deafening silence = *sheepish face*
The Spectrum Universal Knife Block from Dunelm ticks all of the boxes for me because it looks great AND it’s universal. What’s more, it can accommodate all of my existing knives. The knife block measures 11cm by 23cm and is available in black, lime green, purple and red and compliments other items in the Spectrum range. It can hold an assortment of different lengths of knife. The plastic rods can easily be removed from the body of the knife block in one piece and hand-washed with warm soapy water. The knife block’s black, tactile, soft grip surface and chrome base embossed with ‘Spectrum’ exudes quality, making it look much more expensive its £14.99 price tag.

The tightly packed plastic rods allow easy insertion and placement of knives and can easily be removed in one piece and washed.
My knives fit into the universal knife block like a glove. I can stick ’em in and pull ’em out over and over again and have as many or as few of them slotted in at a time, (Yes, I have enjoyed many a game of sticking them in and pulling them out…Just because I can). If I want to, I can even slot my scissors in as well…But I don’t want to slot my scissors in because they aren’t black and chrome so they have to stay in the drawer 😉
