My first ‘Vlog’. It’s not you, it’s me: My BritMums Live disclaimer.
My first video blog (vlog)
Okay, so I am finally putting myself in front of the camera and doing my first ever video blog. I’m nervous. My very first offering is far from perfect and littered with pauses, ‘erms’ and random facial twitches. I even start by getting the name of my blog wrong and saying my Twitter handle, ‘Maflingoblog’ instead of my actual blog name, Maflingo! I’ve left it in, though, because I can’t work out how to change it or edit over it: making my first vlog was painful enough, never mind doing it all again.
Why have I finally relented and posted a vlog? Well, I’m off to the annual BritMums Live (BMLs) Conference this weekend. BritMums is Britain’s biggest collective of lifestyle bloggers and social influencers and the conference is a chance for 600 plus bloggers to get together, listen to speakers, learn more about blogging, meet brands and also to finally meet their ‘virtual’ blogging mates in ‘real life.’
As I want to make a good impression I thought I would issue a disclaimer ahead of time just so people know, ‘It’s not you, it’s me’. See if you can spot references to the fabulous bloggers: Right Royal Mother, Island Living 365, Bridie by the sea, Mess and Merlot, Morgan’s Milieu. If you haven’t read their blogs yet, they are definitely worth a visit!
Okay, here goes….
Are you still there?
I hope I haven’t scared you all off with my video nasty. I also hope my friends and family won’t laugh at me for using my best ‘elocution’ voice or tease me about all of my ‘erms’ and facial twitches…That’s assuming I don’t twitch and ‘erm’ in real life!
By the way, I know we’ll all be issued with badges at BritMums Live but my eyesight isn’t good enough to read the names from a distance…I want to make friends, not freak people out with prolonged ‘boob stares’!
Over to you.
Please leave a comment to say that I haven’t scared you off. If you are a blogger who’s going to the BMLs then it would be lovely if you could reassure me you won’t be giving me a wide berth!
Is anyone else going to the BMLs for the first time this year? If so, how are you feeling? If you’re a blogger who’s been to the conference before then it would be great if you could share your tips. For example, what are you wearing? Do we need to take a suitcase for freebies or a teeny tiny bag?
Talk to me, people!!

I love this! I’m so looking forward to meeting you too and am filming a vlog today too so hopefully we’ll recognise each other 🙂 you’re a natural at talking to the camera. funnily enough you’re not the first person to say they thought my blog was Birdie…no need to apologise at all, I don’t mind it at all! See you in London xx
Hellooooooo! Thank you BRIDIE (!) Please tweet me the link of your vlog because you’ve seen mine, I want to see yours 😉
You haven’t scared me off! Well done for doing your first vlog! See you on Saturday, I will be wearing the furry hood and hiding behind a mug.
Lol! Are you asking them to dim the lights as well 😉 See you soon, International Woman of Mystery 😉
Oh Jane, I promise I will put 100% (that’s okay right?) into being your friend! hehe, only kidding. I’m off to buy that foam finger right now!!
I’m looking forward to meeting you in London hun so that we can both walk into that place not feeling so alone and overwhelmed. I’m super nervous too but so excited to meet everyone. I’m sure we’ll have a fab time. See you on Saturday!!
See you Saturday!:)
Loved your vlog can’t wait to hear of your visit!!!
What a natural! More vlogging please! Enjoy Britmums – I keep promising myself I must go but haven’t made it yet. I look forward to hearing all about it. XX
Aw, thanks, Donna! Yes, lets book a coffee in!
Hi Jane – brilliant! well done! I will know who you are now for sure! Will let you test the radioactive cheese thingy first – he he! See you Saturday lovely #BloggerClubUK
Congratulations on your first vlog! It must have been really nerve wracking. I love the names you’ve come up with for some of the bloggers who you want to meet 🙂
Thanks for linking up to #BloggerClubUK 🙂
Oh my goodness you are a complete natural at vlogging!! Seriously, I am terrified at the prospect so for now this will be the only vlog I will be appearing in 🙂 Aww I’m so happy you have me on your ‘to meet’ list (even if you are just after my birthday cake!) but unfortunately I’ve literally just posted “I’m (not) going to BML16!” *cries*. Date clash with something else – so, so gutted!
Oh and don’t worry about forgetting names, you’ll be in a room full of mum brains so I’m pretty sure everyone will be thinking the same thing (I have to do the word-association thing too!)
Have a fab time, looking forward to hearing about it soon x
Oh no! I can’t believe you have a diary clash (And not just for cake reasons!) I was really looking forward to meeting you. Are you going to blogon in October? Thanks for your encouraging words and ‘mum brains’ lol! See you at some point, Charlie Cakes!
Great first vlog! Your house looks amazing in the background x #BloggerClubUK
Thanks, Emma 🙂
Love your first vlog! And loved the way you remember people’s names, it made me chuckle in that really childish way! Must try that myself. Enjoy your day at BML. #BloggerClubUK
Thanks, Jo! I’m glad I got a chuckle! Everyone has been really supportive so feeling a bit calmer about posting it now
What a great vlog, I start gabbling and mess up my words all the time! I am also hopeless on names and can’t see the names on the badges either. You won’t miss me though, my dress is one big Coombe Mill logo! Signing off “Fiona Sheep”
Hi Fiona (sheep)! You know, I realised after I posted my blog that folks would be thinking ‘Hang on. Everyone will be wearing a name badge.’ But, I’m with you…The writing is always too small to work out from a distance and you don’t want to do any lingering ‘boob gazing’ to try and work out who they are. It’s not the best way to make new friends!! I’m delighted you are going to be helping me out with your fabulous themed outfit. I can drop the sheep! See you on Saturday!
You are a natural! Just smile and everyone will love you, even if you forget their names. I’ll share this to warn people though, haha! Have a fantastic time at BML Alison x #FridayFrolics
Thanks very much, Alison. And yes, please spread the word about my inability to remember names and penchant for ‘boob’ staring as I try to read the badges 😉
This made me laugh. I’m terrified of the names to faces and faces to blogs thing! I’ll probably forget my own name (it’s happened before)!!! Thanks for linking up to #FridayFrolics
Thanks Claire! Really glad I had something a bit funny to share!
Hi Jane, I’m sorry not to have seen this before going to BML as I’d love to have met you. Such a good idea doing a vlog and you seem to be a natural. I’m sure if you wanted to be a TV presenter they’d bite off their arm to have you and the best pair of choppers i’ve ever seen on a real mum! I’ve taken up Stand-Up comedy and wonder about whether vlogging would work but feel a bit self conscious talking to myself. A room full of strangers however !… 🙂 Good luck with Maflingo. Jo x #fortheloveofblog
Jo, You made my day with your lovely comment. You need to vlog! I found doing my first one so difficult but I definitely warmed up about 4 minutes in. I think Bridie by the Sea does really well because it’s just as if you are sitting across from the table from her having a coffee. I think that is the key. Forgeting the camera is there and chatting away. I am going to pop across to your blog and have a look around. Re: my teeth. Thank you very muc. I got invisalign braces at the age of 40 as I was really desperate to get my crooked teeth sorted as they were crowded at the front. It has made such a difference and I wish I had done it years ago! Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
