Vlog: Unboxing my Approved Food Haul. (Plus half-price delivery code).
UPDATE 28/03/2017: I’ve secured a promotional code for Maflingo readers: Half-price shipping (or £3 off multi-boxes and areas outside UK mainland and the highlands), valid on all orders up until 27/04/2017. See details below.
A couple of weeks ago I was invited to join my UK Money Blogging buddies* on a ‘field’ trip to Sheffield to visit Approved Food, the largest online retailer of short-dated food, drink and residual stock. See post here: I visit Approved Food, the UK’s biggest online retailer of clearance food & drink.
Approved Food offer customers over 2,000 products, including well-known brands and supermarket/department store products, all at huge discounts. Many of these products are beyond their ‘best before’ dates. However, unlike ‘use by’ dates, you can still safely eat them, but you may notice a loss in taste or texture.
Approved Food don’t just offer food and drink, either. There are fantastic deals on household goods, health & beauty products, pet supplies and dietary & lifestyle items. Plus, they offer heavily discounted prices on seasonal goods.
My Approved Food Order.
Unlike your local supermarket, Approved Food isn’t the place for your weekly grocery shop, nor does it claim to be. However, it’s great for customers who are looking to stock up on bulk buy bargains like washing powder, alcohol, beauty products and toiletries. It’s also an option savvy shoppers who are keen to ‘top up’ their usual supermarket shop with low-cost deals.
Eager to snap up some bargains, I placed my first order last week.
I ordered 36 different products,(84 individual items in total). Delivery charges are higher than most online supermarkets, starting from £5.99 for up to 25kg, but because my order exceeded 25kg, I needed two boxes, costing £8.50 to deliver.
Total cost of basket items: £67.49
Total delivery cost (2 boxes): £8.50
Total cost including delivery: £75.99
Total saving, compared to RRP: £85
I’m not a fan of paying for delivery and tend to look out for FREE delivery deals when I shop online. £8.50 is expensive for delivery in my opinion, even though it covers orders up to 50kg. That said, I still saved £85 on my order compared to recommended retail price.
I’m impressed with how cheap some of the products were and I managed to get some real bargains, including some well-known brands. For example, I bought Water Wipes baby wipes for 99p each (RRP £2.50), Kelloggs Special K Classic 375g for only 33p, and 3 packets of Cadbury Dinky Deckers chocolates (120g) for 60p! Plus, I also got a great deal on a bottle of Black Creek Sauvignon Creek Marlborough New Zealand 2014 Wine 75 cl costing £5.99 instead of £10.00.

This discount code cuts the cost of UK mainland delivery from £5.99 to £2.99 for one box (up to 25kg). Multiple boxes (orders over 25kg), premium UK delivery areas such as the highlands etc and international orders will get £3.00 off the final shipping cost. Basket spend must exceed £17.50. Not eligible for use with other codes. One use per customer.
Over to you.
Have you ordered anything from Approved Food? Would you consider buying short-dated or beyond best before date products if it could save you money? Would the cost of delivery put you off placing an order with Approved Food, even if you could save up to 70% on your shopping? As always, I’d love to hear from you.
