Why I’ve fallen in love with Marco Polo, the new Video Walkie Talkie App.
Believe it or not, despite being a blogger, I’m not a huge fan of mobile phone apps and social media. In fact, I fall out of love with Twitter, Facebook and Instagram on a regular basis. What’s more, although I have an iPhone, I only use a fraction of its features. For example, I haven’t changed the ringtone on my phone in years and the background picture only tends to change when the kids do it for me. However, despite my general indifference to smartphone programs and features, I’ve fallen in love with an app, the Marco Polo Video Walkie Talkie app to be precise.
Marco is absolutely fabulous. In fact, he’s my hero! When it comes to keeping in touch with some of my friends, I don’t know how I’d manage without him. Luckily, I’m not the possessive type, so I’m more than happy to tell you all about him in so that you can take advantage of him too! đ
Marco Polo App review.
When my friend and fellow Nottingham blogger, Alex Muir (mylifelongholiday.com) said she wanted to introduce me to Marco, I was a little bit shocked. After all, she knew I was a married woman. When she went on to explain that Marco, or Marco Polo to be exact, wasn’t an ‘Italian Stallion’ but a video messaging app, I was even more confused. Why did I need a new video messaging app when I already had FaceTime and What’s App? What could Marco Polo possibly offer me that my existing apps couldn’t? Despite my reservations, I finally gave in to Alex’s constant badgering and installed the Marco Polo App.
I haven’t looked back.
What’s so good about Marco Polo?
In a nutshell, the Marco Polo Video Messaging app enables you to send video messages to your phone contacts at the touch of a button (provided they have the app, too). The brilliant thing about Marco Polo is you can use it ‘on the go’. If you’re tidying the house, picking the kids up from school, or if something pops into your head and you aren’t able to text, you can simply open the app, select your contact and click and record your message.  The recipient gets a notification as soon as you’ve started recording your message, so they can either watch it live or pick up the message later. If they want to reply, they simply send their own message back.
Even better, if you’re still in bed or haven’ applied your makeup, Marco Polo is a knight in shining armour, ready to cover up a multitude of sins with the aid of a selection of flattering video filters. Or, if you fancy a bit of fun, you can use the voice changer and send Great Aunt Mabel a video message sounding like you’ve sucked on a helium balloon, or turned into a man or a robot.
Why use Marco Polo when you can text, Facetime or send a What’s App video message?
Okay, so Marco Polo isn’t a live, interactive video dialogue like Facetime, but that’s why it’s so useful. Marco Polo is perfect for those occasions when Facetime isn’t possible or convenient. Just send your video message and your friends can pick it up when they’re free.
In some ways, Marco Polo is similar to What’s App, because it’s free and it connects you to your phone contacts. However, Marco Polo is purely for video messages, but you do have the added advantage of being able to drop in on the video message live, whilst its happening.
For me, Marco Polo is also the perfect solution when you just can’t be bothered to text. Sometimes I start typing a text and think it would be quicker and easier to pick up the phone. The only problem is, there isn’t time, or my friend might be at work or busy. Â With Marco Polo, I don’t have to spend ages composing a text, I can just send a video message and the recipient can pick up at a time that’s convenient.
Vlog: Marco Polo App Review.
As I’ve already said, sometimes it’s easier and more convenient to explain things in a video, rather than in writing. So here’s my video review of the Marco Polo App, where you can see the app, and my mate Alex Muir, in action!
Marco Polo Video Messaging App : The Verdict.
The Marco Polo video app is a revelation. I love how easy it is to keep in touch with my friends and family when sending a text, a What’s App message, or using Facetime isn’t always possible or convenient (for you or them).
If you aren’t sure if Marco is your type, give him a chance. He may lack the good looks and features of some of his mates, but if you get to know him you’ll realise he’s a genius when it comes to the art of conversation.
Over to you.
Have you used Marco Polo? What Do you think? If you aren’t giving your friends and family members a phone call, what apps do you use to keep in touch with them? As always, I’d love to hear from you.
