Children’s Ikea Hack bedroom makeover finishing touches: DIY desk.
Finishing touches to Emily’s bedroom.
Earlier this year I showed you our daughter’s Ikea hack bedroom makeover (here). Months later and I’ve finally managed to take some photos of some of the finishing touches, including Emily’s DIY desk.
DIY Desk
When we planned Emily’s Ikea Hack bedroom makeover, we wanted to keep costs down by repurposing Ikea items and using MDF to make the headboard and shelf behind the bed. We wanted a desk for the room but because space was limited we decided to make it to our own specifications using some leftover MDF and Ikea Krille table legs. This meant the desk would fit the space perfectly and because it was on wheels, we could move it when Emily needed to access her drawers.
Items needed:
- 18mm MDF cut to 44cm deep by 80cm wide (If you buy your MDF from B & Q, they will cut it to size free of charge).
- Ikea Krille legs on castors (white)
- Crown brilliant white quick-dry satin (I prefer this paint because it’s solvent-free, non-yellowing and the brushes can be cleaned using water).
Seating arrangements.
We bought the VÅGSBERG / SPORREN chair from Ikea. Again, the wheels mean it’s easy to move around when space is tight.
Emily’s DIY desk.
The DIY desk is simple but effective and fit’s the space perfectly.
The Ikea swivel chair in Birch complements the white of the desk and the laminate flooring.
There’s still enough space to open Emily’s drawers, but the castors mean she can easily move her desk when she wants to have a good rummage in them!
